Championship Course

Opened in 1990 and subsequently named “course of the year in 1995”, the Championship course at Macdonald Portal hotel was designed by legendary course architect Donald Steel.

The parkland par 73 layout stretches out an impressive 7,037 yards and includes the daunting 607-yard par 5 third hole with brave long hitters having to approach the green guarded by a beautiful lake. With an interesting history, the land was formerly a battlefield as the holes such as “Waterloo” and “Agincourt” suggest, Donald steel has integrated several stunning water features as hazards here.

Boasting panoramic views of the Cheshire plains, the Championship course is the premier attraction here at the superb Macdonald Portal hotel.
